My mother Helen (a good friend of Betty and Ben's), my sisters and I visited Ben at his Hastings home on a beautiful day in June. Ben took us out for a nice lunch at his favourite spot and a drive around beautiful Hastings. We got back to Ben's and had a nice visit there. I mentioned how much I loved lilacs. The lilac bushes were full so he told me to cut as many as I wanted. He stood at the front door with a big happy smile on his face watching me cut some flowers to take home. He looked so happy knowing that he gave me something that I love. I'll always remember his happy face. All the way home to Toronto we enjoyed the beautiful scent of lilacs. Every time I smell lilacs I think of Ben. I'll miss him very much.
