MATHEWS, Donald George — At Pleasant Meadow Manor, Norwood, with family by his side, Sunday October 2, 2016 In his 82nd year. Beloved husband & soulmate of Bev (nee Porter). Father of Todd of Richmond Hill, Lynn Wilson (Gary) of Westwood & Cory Morrison (Larry) of Norwood. Cherished Grandpa of Sarah, Chris, Nick, Megan, Jack , Alyssa & Danielle. Brother in law of Marie Lucas (Paul, predeceased), Ron Porter (Carol) of Oshawa. Don will be sadly missed by his many nieces and nephews. Don was the son of the late Reginald & Louella Mathews. Predeceased by his sister June Uttley (William). Don was an admired & respected school teacher & vice principal and later served as Public School Board trustee for 9 years. He was a volunteer firefighter and then fire chief retiring after 37 years of service. Don was a community leader & volunteer as a member of the Legion and Lions club. He was also a coach, friend & mentor to many but being a beloved husband, father and grandfather were his most valued roles. Family and friends may gather at BRETT FUNERAL CHAPEL, HAVELOCK from 2-4 & 7-9 pm on Tuesday. A funeral service will be held in the chapel on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at 11:00am, Reverend David Estabrooks officiating.
