Obituary for Bruce Cardwell Warr

Bruce Cardwell Warr
With a life well lived in his 90th year, Bruce died peacefully at PRHC on March 8, 2016. Bruce leaves behind his wife June (Hutchinson) of 65 years, daughters Paula Warr (Paul Walsh) and Annette Merrill (Jim), grandchildren Eric (Brittany Dundas), Jasmine Denike (Zak), Amelia, Ellen and Jesse, and four great-grandchildren. Predeceased by daughter Marcia Martin. Brother of Zola (predeceased), Herb (Gladdy; both predeceased), Bill (Yvonne), Mary Mason (Al; predeceased), and Rex (Pat). Bruce loved his family dearly, and they adored him. Nothing gave him more pleasure than having his family gathered around the dinner table, enjoying a good laugh and a lively opinionated conversation. Bruce was a lover of the land, operating and living on his farm for his entire life, with an untiring work ethic. Bruce was an early advocate of the farm to table principle. Many will remember hearing Bruce’s amazing voice. He was an active member of the choir at St. Andrew’s United Church in Westwood for almost 50 years, as well as being a member of Frank and Julie Leahy’s band and later the George Potter Orchestra. He also sang at close to 100 weddings (and 3 funerals). Bruce had an unquenchable thirst to learn and he seemed to know something about everything. Everyone knew that if Bruce was on your Trivial Pursuit team, you would win. In his youth, he was a gifted athlete, playing baseball and hockey, and remained a faithful Leafs fan. His many hobbies included reading, cards and billiards, and he spent many a happy day enjoying the outdoors hunting and fishing. Friends will know Bruce died as a result of being stubborn, and used up all nine lives. Living life on his terms for nine decades, Bruce did everything he ever wanted to do, and leaves with no regrets whatsoever. To honour his life, please toast him with a drink of good rum. Cremation has occurred and there will be a private family ceremony at a later date. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Campbellford Hospital Foundation or the Westwood Library to recognize his lifelong passion to learn and read, and his love for this community. Arrangements are entrusted to Brett Funeral Chapels. Online condolences at www.brettfuneralchapels.com
