Obituary for Doug Burkholder

Walter “Doug” Burkholder Dec 18 1934 - Jan 25 2023. Passed away peacefully at home. Had the loving support of family and friends, loved by so many near and far. Born and raised in Markham. Oldest of 4, survived by his siblings Barb, Betty, and Reg. Mr fix it, a Jack of all trades. Loved to renovate and carpentry work was his real passion as well as tinkering and fixing just about anything mechanical. He worked for his career as a respected auto mechanic at Neil Patrick Motors and later for many years as service manager at Stouffville Canadian Tire and during his time at Canadian Tire he had the distinction of managing the busiest service dept of its size in Canada. Early in his marriage to Mary he provided many years of service to the Stouffville Missionary church as Sunday school teacher, and usher. He loved the outdoors, dogs, camping and travelling and Sunday drives. He enjoyed a good laugh and music and a bit of dancing and getting silly. He was a fan of the Toronto Blue Jays and Maple Leafs and later in his life enjoyed Raptors games too. He was a kind hearted and generous soul who did much for many. Dad loved his apartment in Havelock where he lived for the last 25+ years of his life. He enjoyed the social hub from the vantage point of the renowned porch beside the post office and he forged many great friendships with neighbours and the daily visitors to the post office. Loved and dedicated to his family he shared with his first wife Mary Pennanen( deceased 1990)and later to the family of his second wife Helen. Loving father to Rob (Donna), Dave (Cindy), Darlene, Rosemary (Chris), Joanne (Scott). Pre deceased by Grandson Ben (1994), loved by his other grandchildren Daisy, Shane (Holly), Brody, Sam, Corymbia, Linden, Kristin and Tyler. Loving and Devoted Step father to Terry (Sherry) Stinchcombe, Debbie (Brian) Grills, Darlene(Glenn) Cassalman and Judy (John) Menzies. As well as eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. As per Doug’s wishes there is no funeral. Visitation in dad’s home anytime from Wed Jan 25 until Friday Jan 27 at noon at his Havelock apartment. 4 George St E, Apt 1, Havelock( beside the Post Office) Donations to Havelock Food Bank.
