Obituary for Ronald Warden Rutherford

Ronald Warden Rutherford, January 4, 1943 – November 10, 2023 —
During a brief stay, Ron passed away in hospital on November 10, 2023 dreaming of tomorrow the day he was to return home to his farm, to the care of his devoted daughters, and to the animals he loved, all of which brought him peace and comfort and a smile to his face every day. Although Ron did not make it back to his home, as scheduled, he is now at rest and reunited with his heavenly family.
Ron was a talented hockey and ball player and an accomplished horseman. He spent many hours travelling to rinks and ball diamonds throughout the province and was selected to play for the Chicago Black Hawks Farm Team. He was well known for his hockey skills and fans would turn out to see him in action at the local arena. He loved ponies and horses and hauled lots of them, along with his girls, to compete at horse shows and fairs. He was an amazing "Horse Show Dad", and the reason for their many successes in the show ring.
Ron lived all his life in the Havelock area, working on the family dairy farm, while raising beef and pork on the farm previously owned by his grandfather, William Griffith. In 1978 Ron took over the R.R. #2 mail route from his father, Fred, carrying out his duties as a Rural Mail Carrier for the next 38 years, until his retirement from Canada Post in 2016 due to health reasons. Ron was extremely proud of his family's history of rural mail delivery in the Havelock area for over 100 years. One of his favourite quotes was "It's the Friends we meet along life's road who help us appreciate the journey'. Ron did appreciate his friends and although his earthly journey is over, please know how much your friendship and support meant to him.
Ron is survived by his loving daughters, Rhonda and Rochelle Rutherford, his brothers Bob (Lenna), Jim (Delores), & Jerry (Carol), and his many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Fred and Ena Rutherford and his beloved sister Marilyn and her husband Ron McMillan.
A Celebration of Ron's Life will be held on his birthday, January 4, 2024 from 1:00 to 4:00pm in the Lions Hall at Havelock-Belmont-Methuen Community Centre. The family have also sponsored the ice time and would like to invite everyone to the public family skate from 1:00 to 3:00pm & pucks and sticks from 3:00 – 4:00pm. In memory of Ron donations can be made to Havelock Minor Hockey Association, Operation Catnip or to the Campbellford Memorial Hospital Foundation.
