Obituary for Mossom John McColl

McColl, Mossom John — Peacefully at Peterborough Regional Health Centre, August 22, 2022. Also known as Moss, Mossy, Brody, Poppa, Grandpa, Sweetheart, Honeybun. As he would say, “Call me anything you like--just don’t call me late for supper!” Loved and forever missed by his Sweetheart, Kim Newton, his kids, Dallis and Cole, of whom he was so proud, his precious grandkids, Isabella and Caiden, his siblings and their families and many friends, including best friend, Jody Hinze. Born June 16,1969 into a hard-working, loving, caring, boisterous family, he was the seventh child in a family of 9! His dad, Mossom, and mom, Marie, were kept busy raising older brothers Shane, Glenn, Jerry, Neal, Scott and big sister, Lori. Johnny and Bobbi-Jo came later. As a child, he would rather die than go to school. That did not stop him from becoming a very ambitious and talented adult. As a hard worker, he didn’t shy away from 14 hour days. He would humbly say he was a “jack of all trades but master of none” but those who had work done by him knew that he was actually a master of many! He became a master tile guy and received many accolades for his work completed over many years. Many of his clients became good friends and adopted him as part of their families. His Sweetheart, Kim, was always grateful that God sent him as a reno guy to her house and he stayed forever as her best friend and #1 supporter! Always fun-loving and a fierce advocate for those he thought needed his help, he could be depended upon to offer assistance when it was needed and a laugh to brighten anyone’s day. Even when facing the challenges of cancer treatment, he always added levity and a smile with his sense of humour and positive attitude. Spirits were bolstered when he joked and laughed and kicked his heels together and took the steps two at a time from the radiation centre of the hospital causing Kim to rush to keep up! He was always proud when he made someone laugh whether it was at a doctor’s office, a restaurant, or even a hospital. He always said, “Life’s too short to be miserable.” Mossy would want us to remember to "Keep looking ahead"; "Just let it go in one ear and out the other" and “Ah, just laugh about it!” Mossy became a firm believer in God! He knew that God in his life was more important than anything else. He believed that Jesus died on a cross for his sins. He said “It’s not what your body is buried in that matters; it’s your soul that counts." When he breathed his last here on earth, he went to be with his God for eternity. He wants everyone to join him in Heaven when it is their turn to leave this earth.

If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved.
