Obituary for Douglas Earl Cole

Cole, Douglas Earl -- After a lengthy battle with cancer and with his family by his side, Doug passed away at PRHC on July 6th, 2023 in his 85th year.

Doug was the third youngest of nine children born to the late John and Adeline (Elmhirst) Cole. Loving husband of Lois Ann (Edwards) and proud father of Catharine (Michael) Lynch, the late Bradley (Anne) Cole, and Gregory Cole. Doug was dearly loved by his grandchildren Meagan (Marcus) Spasic, Spencer Cole and Cole (Bridgett) Lynch and special nephew Derek (Jennifer) Payne and his great grandaughter Poppy Spasic. He is survived by siblings Carl (late Carole) Cole and Gladys (George) Robinson and predeceased by siblings Randall (late Audrey, lage Glenore), Richard (Marie), Ilene (late Reg) Burleigh, Orville (late Anne) Cole, Arnold (late Mary) Cole, Glen (Linda) Cole. He is fondly remembered by dear friends Alf Cooper, Jim and Linda Dafoe and Howard and Dianne Cole and many nieces and nephews and those in the farming community.

Doug was born on the family farm east of Havelock on Hwy 7, and lived there throughout his life; it was his Happy Place. He was a devoted family man and worked hard but could always find time to lend a hand to help whomever and whenever needed. He was a proud member of the Ironworkers’ Union #721 and the brothers and sisters therein.
The last few years have been difficult ones but Doug faced each day with a positive attitude and much determination. Special thanks are extended to the Doctors and Nurses of Campbellford Memorial Hospital and Peterborough Regional Health Care Centre their outstanding and compassionate care during his visits and to Ray Haines and the HBM Fire Dept for their kindnesses and assistance when called upon.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the family farm that he dearly loved, 7465 Highway 7 East, Havelock, Saturday, July 29, 2023 starting at 1:00pm. Please bring a chair. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Campbellford Memorial Hospital, 146 Oliver St, Campbellford K0L 1L0.
