Obituary for Geraldine Wheeler

It is with heavy hearts that we share the peaceful passing of Doris Geraldine Wheeler on November 3, 2021 at the remarkable age of 100 years.

She was born on September 22, 1921 in Havelock, Ontario to Howard and Myrtle Dafoe. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands James Clifford Scott & Herman Wheeler, her daughter Barbara Anne Scott, her son Howard Keith Scott, her daughter-in-law Vaughn Scott and her seven siblings.

Lovingly remembered by her son James Brian Scott and daughter-in-law Donna Scott. Cherished Grandmother of Susan Scott (Rick), Ann Evans (Colin), Paul Scott (Jackie) and Sheri Coles (Jeff) and treasured Great-Grandmother to Katie, Sarah, Reagan, Jackson and Megan. Geraldine is also survived by several nieces, nephews and friends.

Geraldine was a life-long resident of Havelock prior to retirement living. She was part of the fabric of the town participating in many organizations and activities over the years including the Knox Presbyterian Church, the Rebekah Lodge, the Havelock Seniors Centre, many bowling and curling leagues, and selling concessions at the park while watching baseball games. Friends and family can attest to her exceptional culinary skills that often won her prizes at the Norwood Fair. She loved to quilt, golf, fish and spent many hours playing euchre and cribbage with family and friends. Gardening was a passion for Geraldine and her beautiful flowers and festive outdoor holiday decorations were admired by all who observed them. Geraldine possessed a zest for life and her amazingly positive perspective, along with her beautiful smile will be remembered by so many.

A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Mallory and the palliative team at PRHC for their guidance, support and comfort. Special thanks is also given to the kind staff at both Maple View Retirement Residence in Norwood and Royal Gardens Retirement Residence in Peterborough for all the love and care they provided to Geraldine.

A private graveside service was held at Victoria Cemetery in Havelock. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made in Geraldine’s memory at canadahelps.org to either the Havelock Foodbank or the Havelock Belmont & Methuen Senior Citizens Club Inc.
