Obituary for Joyce Sneyd

Sneyd, Joyce R. – in her 85th year at Peterborough Regional Health Center on May 15, 2018. Born Robena Joyce McLean on February 17, 1933 in Iron Bridge, Ontario to William C. and Olive (Seabrook) McLean. She will be lovingly missed by her son, Alan Robert Sneyd and his wife Donna Curtin-Sneyd of Lewes, Delaware. She also will be fondly remembered by her grandson, Dr. Bryan Curtin and his wife Dr. Margaret Curtin and her first great-granddaughter, Claire Curtin of Baltimore Md. Joyce will also be sadly missed by her sister, Elva and brother in law Bill Timms, of Haliburton Ontario. In addition, she leaves behind ten nieces and nephews. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years Robert Hamilton Sneyd; her sister, Velma Hillman; and brothers Garland, Reginald, Gordon, Carl and Raymond McLean. Joyce was raised on the family farm in the remote Spanish Settlement in Northern Ontario. After the death of her mother in 1944, the family relocated to Toronto where Joyce was employed by Christie Biscuits. After marrying Robert Sneyd in 1951, she joined her husband and his uncle Mick Puffer, on the construction and operation of the Round Lake Bayview Cottage Resort until its sale in 1955. She worked as a cashier for the A&P grocery store in Toronto through the mid-1960’s. After the family moved to Havelock in 1968, Joyce cashiered for the Red & White and IGA stores until retirement in 1985. Joyce enjoyed travel, gardening, pickling, bingo, playing the slots, and spending time with family and numerous friends. Known for her ability to make others smile and her positive “go with the flow” attitude, she will be sorely missed by the Havelock community. Bill Timms, Deacon of the West Guilford Baptist Church will officiate at the service and interment to be held at 11am in Pine Grove Cemetery, Havelock, Ontario on Saturday June 16, 2018 with a luncheon to follow at the United Church of Canada, 10 Ontario Street, Havelock. Arrangements entrusted to Brett Funeral Chapel, Havelock.
