Obituary for Mary Agnes "Agnes" Van Steenburgh

VAN STEENBURGH, Mary Agnes – In Vernon, B.C. on Wednesday, June 10, 2015, in her 104th year. Agnes was born Mary Agnes Paugh, on August 22, 1911 in Morgantown, West Virginia, U.S.A. She met and married her husband, Walter, after he graduated from the University of West Virginia. After their marriage, Walter and Agnes moved to Belmont Township in Ontario, Canada to operate the family farm and cottage business. Agnes was a lady of many talents. In addition to her farming duties in the grain and hay fields and tending the sheep during lambing season, she found time to develop her many other interests. She became an excellent cook and was famous for her delicious meals and beautiful wedding cakes which she made for friends and family. Her talents extended to all kinds of crafts, from paneling the living room to making winter scenes in goose eggs. Agnes was predeceased by her husband, Walter, four sisters and two brothers. She is survived by her daughter Barbara (Bob), her son Walter (Skip), three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews both in Canada and the United States. Through her association with their clients in the cottage business, many of whom were regular customers for upwards of thirty years or more, she developed lasting friendships that have lasted to the present day. Resting at the BRETT FUNERAL CHAPEL, HAVELOCK on Wednesday from 7 – 9 pm. Funeral Service Thursday, June 18, 2015 at 1:30 pm, Reverend Eleanor James officiating.
